Counter-Offers: They may be tempting…but have you given any thought to the risks?
Will the counter-offer enhance or impair the likelihood of you achieving your career goals? It would be wise to truthfully answer the following questions:


  • Are you receiving your future bonuses, raises and incentives all at once disguised as the counter-offer?

  • If downsizing or layoffs come, will your name be at the top of the list? “After all, you wanted to leave.”

  • Will you be given unreasonable job duties that clearly fall outside your job description?

  • Will you be passed over for promotions?

  • Will your employer and/or co-workers continually doubt your loyalty?

  • Will you have the freedom to pursue your career goals?

  • Is the counter-offer a tactic for your employer to locate, train and position your replacement?
